My gear for Big Games

You want to go to a big game, a multi day event but have no idea what to bring. You want to double check if you forgot something or might need something else. In this video I go over everything I bring to one of those games.

There is a time where I will tell you as a player, all you need is a rifle, eye protection and good shoes. Big events like Berget or Bellum do need a bit more kit, but you would be surprised on what kit you actually need.

I have a gear list that you can download on my website. We’re on the 6th version at time of recording this video and I keep updating it. It does change sometimes depending on the role I play in those games. A lot of people have been using my list as a reference to prepare for their game.

You might know I split up my gear in different layers and those layers will come back during the video. The list is split up in different parts too. That was before I started with the layers but it’s still quite similar.

Let’s get into it.

In-game clothing or Layer 1

Here you find the clothing for my feet, legs, body, including the spare sets, depending on the length of the game. There are different temperature packs that include cold gear, weather and some protection for your eyes and against bugs.

An important item here is the laundry bag to put all your dirty clothes in when you change sets.

My travel clothing

This is a set of clothes that I keep in the car and does not get covered in sand or moisture depending on the weather. It’s my clean set after a long time of being smelly. You can call it my ‘normal clothing set’

My Gear

This is a mixture of layer 2, 3 and 4. Making this video made me realize I might actually split this up a bit more in future lists. But for now it’s in the ‘Gear’ section.

Here you find my combat gear, belt and chestrig and most of the stuff that goes inside of it. This is all the gear that goes in layer 2. My backpacks are also here. Yes, backpacks, plural. This depends on the situation. You can do with one, but I need to have my camelback on me, otherwise I forget to drink. My small bag is already ready for the game so that’s why I use a second. Backpacks are layer 3 and I go deeper into that in that specific video.

There is also all the sleeping gear, from tent to sleeping mat to binders and tarps for extra protection.

Besides the layer stuff, there is also stuff that stays in the tent area, for example my mirror, facepaint and towel.

Communication

That’s easy, everything involving my comms. Radios, batteries, PTT, antennas. I bring extra stuff because of my role as leader. This makes communication more important than other things.

Weapons

The thing that is important but actually is only a small part of the gear list is the weapons I use. It is important of course, but without the other things on the list, it’s useless. It’s important to find a good balance between everything you bring to keep you going.

Miscellaneous

The things that don’t fit anywhere else or that I added later on and didn’t put in the correct category yet. When I now go over the list I see items that I can rearrange to the correct category. So I have a nice winter project coming up. This list will have a continuous update on the website where you can find the latest version.

In this section you can find things like sunscreen, paperwork, fps tester, laptop, solar panel, … like I said, miscellaneous stuff.

Food stuff

All the things you need to eat and prepare your food. So the heater, the bowl, spoon and of course the food itself.

Film gear

For most of you this is a part you can skip. It’s what I need to film and keep filming with my GoPro. I bring a spare GoPro, just in case the main one stops working. Extra batteries, extra SD cards and some other accessories.

Batteries

A lot of things run on different batteries. Be sure to bring spare batteries. From your red dot to your rifle or the light that is in your tent. Know what battery it has and bring spare ones. I have a battery box to easily find the ones I need.

Tools

Things break down on longer games and I want to be able to fix it myself so I bring a small collection of tools to be able to open up my rifle and fix a lot of the problems I might have. Other tools are to do some base defense stuff like a saw and a big hammer. It’s something you don’t need to bring but useful if you can work on it yourself.

A very important note to the tools and also to everything else you bring, mark your stuff. People will come and ask to use it, you will lose something somewhere, you share something and you will forget. By tagging your stuff with a number/letter combination, people might know it’s yours or if it shows up in a picture you can recognize your gear.

This is a lot of gear. It might sound overwhelming but I hope this list prepares you better for your big game. Slowly gather the gear that you need for your game. On my list there are items for convenience that you don’t need when you start off, others are a must have. I believe you can make that decision yourself.
