It’s a special feeling, I’m back doing Team Events.
Team Events are the perfect mix between a sunday game and a longer milsim. It’s an event where the mission is important but succeeding the missions as a team is where the whole thing is about. A few things keep this structure standing, important things that the player and the organiser need to think about very carefully.
Roles
You can see that I come from a Battlefield 2 background. One of the first games where the class system was introduced on a large scale. A system where you need each other to move forward, a system to work as a team to do the most damage. The Team Events have different roles that are needed to work together in the best way possible. The NCO gets the information and delegates everything, the medic brings people back into the game, the RTO is the link between others teams and organiser, the Support gunner, the Recon unit, The rifleman and in the future I might even expand this with more specific roles.
Depending on different locations, some roles are not used. This creates a very flexible system that can be introduced in a small, medium or large field.
Respawn
Where the Team Events shine is the specific medic system. You can go over the full rule set in the rules and it might be tweaked even more for bigger fields. In short, there is not only the ‘hit’ and ‘respawn’. There is also the stabilizing, healing and team respawn. The system is build to keep the team together without opening the opportunity to dig in and hold a position indefinitely. Movement and mobility creates opportunities to succeed the mission the way the team likes to proceed.
The respawn system has been extended with a team respawn, a point that the Team Leader can choose where to respawn. Every decision the Team Leader makes, will have a big affect on his team. This is certainly the case for the team respawn.
Responsibility
Finding good Team Leaders, in airsoft, is not an easy task. Me as a leading person in bigger milsim, I’m always searching for capable leaders that want to guide their unit into what I send them into. Being a leader is more than just shouting orders, it’s a link between the commanders and the people on the ground. They put their people in the correct position, take care of their food and water intake, their mental well being and much more. It’s a task that requires responsibility and usually it’s to late when you’re on a big game to find out how a person handles that responsibility.
To avoid disasters that I had in the past, Team Events will show good leading people that are ready to take up a unit in a bigger game like Berget, Bellum or Battlegroup.
Mission based Team game
During my organising years, I have done multiple team events. Everyone loved the game style and I’m happy that I can do it again, here in Sweden. It will be a very interesting concept and I hope the Swedish people are open for it. Together with the players we will perfect the rule book to create a perfect mix for players that want to focus on mission based team games. You might see a link to the Airsofter World Games with this buzz words and you’re correct.
Bringing people and teams together creates opportunities for those teams to perfect their skills, which eventually leads into players perfecting their teamwork and personal skill level. Preparing them to take the next step with the team and compete into the Airsofter World Games, that are now focused on mostly indoor fields but will be expanded into outdoor fields in the future.
Special
Team Events is something special that most players have never experienced. Change is scary but I do hope to see a lot of new faces at the first Team Event in December. You can get your tickets here, Team Event #01 – Mölnlycke
