I want to talk about a new protection piece that I bought to protect my face during CQB games. I got myself the Push Unite mask.
The Push Unite fits in the line of painball masks that are used by airsoft indoor and outdoor, it’s most commonly seen on speedsoft fields by people in sweatpants. I’ will not go over why I choose this type of mask above the other types, I’m going to make a video about that, because I tested out a lot of different types of glasses and protection.
Why a Full face mask?
I will go over the Push Unite and why I choose this one over the other models that are out there. Most of you know the dye I4 or I5 or the Empire EVS. This one is in the same line, but just a bit different.
Because I’m new in all this full face protection mask thing, I had to do a lot of reading to see what would fit my needs. First of was to make a list of things that I wanted it to have.
- Needed to protect my face, eyes and sides
I’m going to use this in fast games, so I will get pretty close to the enemy, so protection is very handy. - No, or almost no fogging
I run a lot and as long as I’m running, it’s fine, but when I stop. Woooof, fog. - I needed to be able to shoulder all my rifles without having issues
During my search I noticed some more important things. Those are thing that were not on my list but were very usefull.
- Soft cheeky bits instead of hard plastic, If you shoulder your rifle, you don’t want to hear ‘TOK’ all the time.
- The echo inside the mask while yelling, I talk/yell a lot so I don’t want to make myself deaf, I didn’t know there was a difference, but there is.
- The view angle of the glass. The more viewing distance you have, the less you have to turn your head to see what is going on. Here it was important that you have a big field of view, without any warping on the glass.
So after reading reviews, watching videos I searched what brands were available in Belgium to go test them out. I went to Airsoftshop because most shops only had Dye. Airsoft shop has Dye, Push and another brand. In the shop I was able to see and feel the difference between the 2 brands and with my list of pointers, the Push Unite was the obivious choice for me.
The Push Unite has 2 versions, the basic one and the advanced one. I have the basic one because I didn’t think the 50eur extra for a special color, magnetic band and case was worth it. But more about the pricing later.
I was looking for the OD one, because I wanted to use it in the woods too, but that one was not available, so I went for the black one, and we all know that black goes with everything.
When you get your mask, you have in the box,
- The mask
- Soft bag to put the mask in
- Allen Key
Features
The internet tells you that The Push Unite goggle combines decades of knowledge from the most influential players in the game. The result is new goggle that refuses to be beat in fit, function, and style. The Unite goggle features total face fit customization with an adjustable nose bridge, soft earpieces, and dual injection molding.
But what does that mean,
Let’s split this up in 3 parts, the mask, the lens and all the accessories
The lens
The lens is optical correct with a very big field of view it has a quad layer anti fog to ensure no fog while playing. Well that’s a lot of fancy words to say that it should not fog up, we’ll have to test that.
The lens has a quick change system and they have a lot of different lenses in all colors and styles. I like basic so I picked the clear lens.
The mask
The mask has an ultra light frame with flexible ear/chinpads. It basically flexes and stretches where you need it and it fits on most heads. One thing that I wanted to make sure was that I can aim trough my sights without having the mask bumping on to my stock. I was really have that because of the rubber sides you don’t have the ‘tok’ sound and the sides just flex away. No raiser needed. I can even aim trough my iron sights of my AK.
With the rubberized band at the back it will stay in place. This is the same material I have on my gopro headband and it stays in place very well.
There are 16 ventilation zones all over the mask that will let the hot air out and keep your face as cool as possible. They also say that there should be almost no echo inside the mask. I yell a lot, so that will come in handy.
The fancy model has a magnetic quick release chinstrap, mine is the basic model and is has clip, it it will do the trick.
It has a 3 layer mask foam for optimal comfort and I found this explanation that I want to share with you. “It has the highest quality moisture wicking triple layer face foam for optimal fit and comfort. I must say, it’s pretty soft.
On top of the mask there is an anti reflection bridge that will reduce the inner lens glare by casting a shadow over the top vents. I have no experience with the older models so I don’t know how bad that was.
The last cool feature is the bridge adjustment system, this is an exlusive design for the push unite masks. You can adjust the nose with an allen tool to fit your face. This will create a perfect seal to eliminate hot air from breathing. So this will make sure that your face stays cool… I think.
Accessories
There are a few items that can come in handy depending on your needs.
There is extra chin protection, that might come in handy if you have a big head and you want to protect your chin a bit more.
As I said before there are a lot of different lenses that you can fit to it and there is also a lens protector.
If you don’t have the fancy model you can buy a magnetic chin strap too. You never know when you want to join the fancy gang.
If you like to customize your helmet a bit more you can change the back strap to something else
There are also replacements foam kits available, what is pretty nice. I have no idea how fast they wear out, but I’m going to find out. So it’s good that they have those.
And last but not the least there are 2 different travel cases the standard one and the carbon one. Both are molded to the mask and will fit the mask perfectly.
So a lot of choices to change your mask. I don’t know, I think I’m getting old. I like the standard one. I will look for a separate travel case, to take it with me.
The numbers
Well, it’s a one size fits most and there are a few different prices. I bought mine in AirsoftShop and there the base model costs you 160 euro and then the more fancy you go, the more expensive they get. The next model is 210 euro and you get the case and the magnetic chinstrap and a fancy lens and color. Prices may vary depending on the country. But you can order from airsoftshop anywhere in Europe.
The next thing will be taking this thing in to the field and test it out so I can give you my personal opinion. One thing that I already noticed is that I’ll have to get used of having something in the way while looking down. It’s not possible to just look down with your eyes, I will have to physically move my head down to see. Something to get used to.
